You have lived your life to the fullest. A loving husband and a good father. A man of faith, love and sacrifice.
I am so grateful for you Papa. Thank you for your strong faith. You have encouraged me to read my bible during my teenage years. Thank you for your love and care when we were growing up. You’re always there for us. Thank you for your hardwork and sacrifices. You gave us the best education amidst of financial challenges. A dream come true for you. Thank you for your leadership. You have disciplined me to the max. I always ended up crying at the top of my voice for hours. You also taught me how to survive. This is when I started selling anything, from ice candies, newspapers, metal scraps and even our stuffs at home.
Countless memories I cherish and I can’t forget. For all I am, I owe it to you Pa. I love you!
As Jania Dae said after the burial, “We will see you again in heaven because that’s our permanent home.” We will sorely miss you, for now. See you again.
And to our dearest friends, thank you for the comfort you brought us through your messages, hugs, prayers, encouragements and support in this season of grieving. God refresh you as you have refreshed us.
God must have really anointed you, for the moment you are able to lift up your hands you were praising God and singing to Him. Yep! Got a couple of moments recorded;
As young as maybe 3 or 4 you were talking about hearing from God. And this or that is what He wants you to do. Dad and Mom are amazed. God speaks to us through you;
You started out a singer but now turned dancer. I must say nobody can beat your moves. You dance like crazy funny but everybody loves you! You’re the life of the party;
You’re very good in Math and Science. You’re on the self-study mode during most times and it works :’) (don’t even know how you learned to read the time);
The things that you love are everything about bible stories, the universe, the weather, chess and angry birds!
You love watching news on TV. You remember every name of the tropical depression you hear about along with their wind velocity and the like;
You’re very prayerful. You ask God for the “salvation of the penguins” and say like “enough rain to water the plants and no more storms EVER!”, “we will have the biggest money EVER!”, “the nicest house EVER!”. Funny but powerful prayers spoken like a true child and in faith;
You’re a walking law enforcement agency when it comes to traffic rules, always reminding daddy to keep within the speed limit (you and mom are partners);
You’re very brave when it comes to injections, no problem with drinking medicines and dentist visits. And yes, you still love veggies;
You’re a happy child. Laughing at the silliest jokes, wide eyes or a simple grin. You are ticklish all over your body. You giggle at the mere intention to make you laugh;
Natututo ka nang mag Filipino. Kaya mo yan anak! Nood lang ng nood ng balitanghali at on call (hehe joke lang baby ko);
If I can put these two together, I must say that you’re a very normal kid (fighting, coveting and all) and yet, a child like no other.
God is so good towards you! His grace abounds in your life. You’re loved, so love back. Continue to be wise and compassionate. As God blesses you, may your desire is to speak of Christ’s love to others. We’re excited about your future. (Jeremiah 29:11-14)
So blessed to have you! Happy 7th birthday, Anak! We love you!

Our 6-yr old, John, and our 5-yr old, Jania, came running to me yesterday at home asking who should be the first to use our television. Jania wants to watch a video while John wants to play Wii. Just to let them use some critical thinking and exercise a bit of decision-making, I told them to talk it out between the two of them and then, decide for themselves. This is how their conversation went:
Jania : Kuya, will you let me watch tv first?
John : But I want to play Wii.
Jania : But I was on the bed this morning and I heard you were playing bowling.
John : Ok. Wait, wait I will teach you how to share.
Jania : You want to teach me how to share, but you’re not sharing. (saying it softly and slowly)
John : Wait, wait I’ll think.
Jania : I know what being greedy means. It means you want all things for yourself.
I interrupted and told Kuya that the best way to teach is to set an example.
She simply loves to spell. After ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,’ here comes another word, the longest word – Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.
Amidst our economic challenges, we take a look into Joseph’s approach on financial management. A preparation, I believe, for something bigger!
Get Ready For Every Economic Cycle
Economic cycles are inevitable. There are cycles of prosperity and recession in every economy. Cycles of nature and circumstances don’t only happen to bad people, they happen to everyone. Those who are wisely prepared for them are the ones who “weather” the storms. Those who build their houses—in the financial realm as well as in the other areas of our lives—firmly on the Word of God and His principles will not only survive these storms but will often be stronger afterward.
Save in Prosperous Times
Because of careful and diligent savings during seven prosperous years, Joseph was able to buy everything that could be bought in the land of Egypt over the next seven years of economic recession. During times of prosperity, surpluses should be saved and not consumed.
Help Others
In times of recession, that surplus can be multiplied into more wealth as it is used to help meet the needs of others. As quoted by Bo Sanchez, “The ultimate purpose of wealth is to help others.”
There is a time to invest our savings conservatively, and a time God may instruct us to use it to build wealth more aggressively. Just as Solomon said in Ecclesiastes:
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to gain, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away. (Eccl. 3:1-3, NLT)
